My first memory of Uncle Bernard was in the mid fifties. He came to our house at Walton-on-Thames taking turns bouncing my sister and I on his knee. He was also an avid train spotter and would take off to check engine numbers.
Since we lived abroad, I only saw Bernard and Maureen when we visited England. However, I have fond memories of our visits where we were always most welcome. He had a tremendous sense of humour, dry wit and kind personality. We took advantage of every opportunity we could to see him when in the UK. Like Pierre, I shall truly miss him.
