Uncle Bernar

My first recollection of Uncle Bernard was asa schoolboy at our grandparents' house at 80 Orchard Road, Portsmouth. He would jiggle me up and down on his knee on the kitchen chair full heartedly with his wonderful big smile (as you can deduce from this there was not much of an age difference).  My next big memorable recollection was when he brought Maureen over to introduce her to our parents in Walton-on-Thames just beforewe left for overseas again. Maureen turned up with two big Easter eggs for Yves and myself. Having lived overseas where such things were not the norm, you can imagine thatMaureen was instantly close to my heart. Thereafter I would always come and see Bernard and Maureen whenever I came to England. I remember his teasing about knowingnothing of computers (while Ian and Andrew were glued to their screens!), the lovely outings he would take us out on to see the English countryside, the shopping and eating at Gunwharf, and above all his kindness in sending me the whole of the unseen series of 'Strictly Come Dancing' which we had watched at his house and he realised we did not have this program in New Zealand.

All this to say that you, Bernard, will not be forgotten by me.
